Public Authorities Training Program
Combining public and private management approaches to deliver certain services to the public effectively and efficiently, public authorities* are unique institutions. In an increasingly complex governance environment, public authority board members and senior managers need to be prepared to make the best decisions. To support their valuable work, the School of Professional Studies at The City University of New York ("SPS") has launched a Public Authority Training Program (the "Program").
The goal of the Program is to assist public authority leaders to better understand and satisfy their legal, fiduciary, ethical and personal responsibilities. We provide the following services.
- Executive-level Training for public authority board members and senior managers on board governance and oversight responsibilities. This training has been developed in partnership with the NYS Commission on Public Authority Reform, a bi-partisan entity established by Governor Pataki in 2005, and chaired by corporate governance expert Ira M. Millstein. Customized sessions with individual institutions on topics they select can also be structured.
- A Website - provides practical information and best practices for public authority leaders.
- An Information Service - directs inquires on public authority board governance and responsibilities to sources of information and advice.
*Corporations formed by governments that can be termed public authorities, public benefit corporations or agencies in enabling statutes.
